I'm not an IVDU, not yet an addict

The weekend didn't turnout the way it was supposed to. We didn't go ice skating, coz Izzet's paycheck wasn't banked in. So, no cash no skate. But Sarah and I did hangout with our primary school mates Shahrina & Suhaili. That was fun, catching up on old times. Shahrina's taking a degree in Law (like Sarah) whereas Suhaili's taking up a degree in Accounting.

Aunty Alis from Paris just arrived this week! She gave us some ole-ole from Bali, I think it's also from Uncle Jean-Luc since he was here 2 weeks ago. Didn't have a chance to talk to Aunty Alis much since she and Aunty Nurie were spending too much time shopping at Poh Kong.

Saturday night, went for a shisha outing with Intan, Sarah, Izzet, Abg Hazril, Amy, Eddie and 2 of his friends Hud & Khalid. I think it was at Ampang Park or something, not sure. I don't even know the name of the place...but it was ok. We hung til it was like...3.30am? We scratched clubbing of our list that night coz none of us were really in the mood to partay.

Anyway....let's talk about today!

More experimental excitement! Our workshop just now was about the Endocrine system. So, one of the things we learned was how to use an insulin injection (Novolet and Novopen)...ON OURSELVES! It's subcutaneous (just below the skin), so it didn't hurt at all. The thought of having a needle poking inside you gave everybody nerves, but once it broke through, there was really nothing to be scared of. It's wayyy different with the venepuncture though. THAT hurt..lol.

We were guided by a group of really, really nice and fun nurses. We were told to address our nurse Kak Shima. She was really great! Our group was made up of 5 gals - Ain, Assila, Chupa, Fatin & Me. Kak Shima told us to inject it ourselves. This is so we know how it would feel like, and if a patient asks how painful it is we would know how to describe it.

Basically, you have to measure two finger breadths from your umbilicus and mark the injection spot beside the 2nd finger. This is because there are a lot of blood vessels surrounding the umbilical region, 2 fingers away means we won't be poking the vessels and will result in a lesser bleed. Also, the needle musn't be poked at a 90deg angle. Less blood will make patients less afraid.

So yeah, studying medic has its advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage that I can think of right now would be having alotta holes in you, thanks to the venepuncture and insulin injection. What next, eh? lol. But in a way, it's good coz I'm sorta afraid of needles. Being able to overcome this fear is like an achievement for me.
