i can speak chinese!

Dear Blog,

I took this from a friend of a friend (and that friend took it from their friend's friend..and so on, so forth)

I guess I don't have to take that Mandarin class after all =) (Joking, joking)

This is hilary-lary-ious! Hopefully this does not offend anyone and it is not meant to create any inter-racial misunderstandings. Just for laughs, let's all find our sense of humors and laugh away XD

Don't forget to say it with an accent. Yu En Joi! =)

heart paramore!

Dear Blog,

Firstly, I would like to thank my good friend Dina Sabrina - for suggesting us to make a flashcard saying "the Darwins love Paramore".

Secondly, thanks to Jenna, Leanna and Ritz for their hardwork and dedication in buying the materials used for the flashcard and actually making it.

The result:

What and honor, considering how big-a-fan we all are. OMG! hehehehe..we had a feeling that we would "stand-out" XD

.Love you guys! (Paramore i mean, heheh), l e n a.

if the shoe fits, can i call it home?

Dear Blog,

It's still hard getting used to U**M.

Although I'm not the most pious person around, I'm not really irreverent as well. I've got my limits and I know what they are. I can distinguish between what's right and what's wrong, but like all of God's creations...we've all sinned. To what extent? I'll leave that to Him, for only He knows.

It's just so hard. I mean, they've gotta understand. I don't come from where they come from. I wasn't raised as how they've been raised. My surroundings and social background is COMPLETELY different from what they grew up with. Now, they dominate, everyone knows that. But, of course there's nothing that we can do.

Some of the things that I do here, I always have to wonder if it is wrong or right when in fact back in my hometown people don't even notice and it's considered a trivial issue.

Do people talk behind my back? I'm certain of it. But, I can't say much because I don't actually "hear" them say anything (uh-oh, delusional?). There are times when I just don't care anymore, I mean...what the heck man? Get off my back people.

It's just so different here. I need proper guidance. I mean, sometimes I even wonder, am I actually adapting for Him, myself or 'them'? Often, there's just too much pressure. That's why getting away from this place and running back to the confines of my 'home' is necessary EVERY weekend. So, don't ask why I disappear at the end of the week.

I'm just glad I've found friends that can keep me sane all these years, in other words kind of sama kepala. I'd totally be lost without them, in fact, lonely even.

BUT...sometimes I feel as though I don't belong back 'home', too. So, where should I go then?

.what world do i live in? where do i fit in? l e n a.

unveiled

Dear Blog,

As usual, I shall make use of the opportunity that has bestowed upon me.

Tomorrow night's Hari Siswi at KTDI, an event made especially for ONLY girls, especially whom unfortunately are unable to show their talents 'publicly' due to a few political reasons. I know that there are many out there that are interested in these kinda stuff but aren't given a chance to actually go out in the open.

I think that it's great that they're introducing such events. I love that there are actually alotta talents out there, alas, they had been overshadowed or veiled by ..... This is a really sensitive issue, and I believe if I discuss further, a group of people (maybe more than just ONE group) will hunt me down with pitchforks and burn me at the stake, like a Witch with a capital B.

Unlike some people, I tend to NOT care what people think and just perform, ban me if you will, but some of the lecturers like it.

Anyway, nuff of that.

I'm grasping this occasion, hoping that it will keep my mind off things, especially NICU-related issues.

I'll be participating this Nasyid group with some of my colleagues that I never knew they even liked the thought of me playing guitar. I guess, never judge a book by its cover? Even weirder, they were the ones who approached me to help play the guitar while they sing. I was honored of course and eventually accepted.

Other than that, I'll be dancing a traditional number to the song Kurik Kundi and will be singing Paramore's The Only Exception with Aishah as an opening act or something.

I can't wait for the latter, for I am a big fan and I am so there for next week's concert! YAY! I wish to dedicate our performance to Paramore, for never in a million years would I have ever imagine that they would actually step foot on Malaysian soil. I'm overwhelmed. I can't wait!! =D

Hmm, wish me luck. Macam tak sempat nak practice for all performances je? =S

.i love to perform, so what? l e n a.

The Gerds

Dear Blog,

When is it ok to be gedik?

when you're / your :

  • one of the most popular girls around
  • rich
  • flirting
  • crush is around
  • posing for the camera
  • happy
  • cracking jokes
  • bored
  • with your BBFs
  • over-reacting
  • craving for attention
  • nemesis is nearby

OR

just because...you're a girl...it's ok to become that way?

What is gedik anyway?

Can guys be gedik too? Is there another terminology for that?

I don't really know what the word means actually. It pretty much differs for each and every individual.

So it's actual meaning is really unknown to me. But what I do know is that gedik is supposed to mean something negative, especially if it's appointed towards someone other than your 'clique'. A personality or attitude that one 'brands' a certain someone when that person behaves in a way that is unacceptable in the eye of society.

In Malay, a similar and more widely used term would be "mengada".

Non-verbally...one would express someone as gedik by either exchanging glances within their group of friends or by a raised eyebrow...sometimes even, shaking of the head would mean that whatever it is that that person's doing is totally NOT OK.

Why am I fussing over this silly word anyway?

Because nowadays, it's ok to call your friends gedik. They don't mean it in a bad way, really. It's just a way they express themselves when you're acting in a way that some people may findmengada, but funny or cute at the same time.

So, when some calls you gedik, don't take it too personally (only applicable to girls). Keep an open mind that there are positive and negative prospects in everything =)

(this picture is totally unrelated *chuckles*)

.l e n a, being...gedik?. Did I use that correctly? LOL.

no means....yes?

Dear Blog,

So silly of me. I just dunno how to say no sometimes.

Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me whether I knew the way to SACC, Shah Alam. I told her, "yeah, Shah Alam's just beside Subang Jaya".

I explained to her the directions from Cheras-Federal, coz that's the only way I know since that's my route to and fro home.

She didn't get it...of course, the roads here in Malaysia can be pretty confusing if you know what I mean. She then told me to explain to this other friend of hers. As expected, a lil blurry.

Then one of 'em suggested for me to help show the way there.

I was like, "hmmm...".

Then she added, "nanti kita orang letak Farah as one of the AJKs"

Owhh...I hate being in an organization.

"Ataupun kita orang letak Farah as Exco terus. Nak jadi exco? Boleh letak as AJK Program ke"

Owh my, they really don't know the way there. They didn't have to offer all these posts though, I really am not interested in all those crappy politic stuff. Plus, my merit's already more than the average mark to stay on-campus for next year, InsyaAllah. No more for me. I was only thinking to myself, "did I want to sacrifice my weekend to go back to KTDI - this place that I so don't want to hang around during weekends?"

"Hmmm...bila eh?

"This Sunday."

Uh-oh. Sunday's my family time. Usually untouchable to the outside world.

But, I figured...what the heck? Lending a hand to a friend in need is a friend indeed. Then I asked, "what time?".

"8 pagi".

Errrkkk. Again, Sunday is family time and we usually have breakfast together - us siblings, either at McD's, Fawwaz or we'd order in from Ritz since he's so very rajin to go out in the morning, sometimes hehe.

Owh well, what's ONE Sunday right? So I agreed to help show them the way there. I'd have to go back to KTDI Saturday night, though. Hmm. I just hope my directions are correct, you see...I have this problem with coordination and orientation. One might think I'm Delirious.

Later in the afternoon today, I noticed a text from a friend asking whether or not I wanted to join Explorace...Saturday morning. At the back of my mind I was debating with myself, I promised days ago to Leanna that I'd come back home this weekend. I have this Raya Open House thingy tonight at the cafe with my housemates and I'll be leaving for home afterwards.

If I were to join the Explorace (8am mind you), I'd have to come back here tomorrow morning? I didn't think it wise for I'd only be spending my time at home for less than 2 full days. Then I found out that my friend really wanted to join this event and a group must consist of 5 people. She's got 3 including herself, she needed another 2.

OK. I'll join then. It could be fun. It's been awhile since I've joined these kinda activities.

A few hours later, my twin sister called. "You're coming back tonight, right?"

Hmmmm...should? I don't wanna tire myself running back and forth 2 days straight.

"Uhhhh..hmm...kenapa eh?"

"Let's do something tonight?" she asked.

So we agreed to watch a movie tonight...later, after that KTDI Open House.

My weekend Agenda:

Tonight:
KTDI Open House
Go back home
Late night movie with the sibs

Tomorrow:
8am - Go back to KTDI for Explorace
Go back home..coz they wanna celebrate the occasion of both Dr. Jannah and I, whom have passed our recent examinations.
Go back to KTDI that night

Sunday:
8am - Shah Alam tour guide
Go back home

So when should I come back to KTDI for class? Sunday night? Monday morning? That, I'll decide later...when the time comes. But, we already know the answer now don't we? I usually return to college that very morning even though I have to go to the NICU thereafter.

Fuel expenses? prolly around RM20, thank god for the very fuel-efficient Viva Elite! Muahh muahh.

.errr, when will I have the time to do my study group notes...or STUDY even? l e n a.

Dear Blog,

I'm stressed!

I want my Burger Shop 2! I love this game sooo much! I played it during my study week and in the midst of my final exam, LOL. It's a real stress-reliever.

Why are you loading too slowly? UKM Jaring stinks.
