What a funny story to tell.
Kan I've been mostly MIA from the ward...not all the time, just most of the time. So, just now was my long case exam, assessed by none other than Mr. S. He told both me and Lay Fang to clerk an Endocrine & Breast (ENB) patient beforehand and present during the ward round this afternoon.
So like, in the midst of the rounds...Ms. D started asking 3rd and 5th year students questions pertaining Lay Fang's patient who was having a thyroid enlargement.
When her eyes fell upon me, she asked..."Farah Liyana, (people mispronounce my name all the time), can you answer the question?"
I was like, owh crap...what was the question?? So I answered, "C-cells?"
Everyone laughed, not with me, at me. Lol. That was embarrassing. Apparently, they asked why FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) couldn't differentiate between Follicular Carcinoma and Adenoma. I thought they wanted to know what kinda cells there were in the thyroid gland. Yay! I made a fool of myself in front of the ward round, again! =(
And then...that kantoi question came up....in front of the whole ENB team (consisting of 3rd + 5th year students, HO, MO, Registrars and Specialists)!!!!
Miss D: Hold on eyh, Farah? How come I've never seen you around during the ward rounds? Or around the wards for that matter?
Mr. S: Saya pun tak pernah nampak
This was that "all eyes on me" moment you always see in movies.
l e n a: *gulp*...(I made an innocent expression and said...) huh? Ada
Miss D: You sure? Owh well, if you say so.
Then the ward round continued. And we came over to my patient's bed. Pheww~
All in all, oklah. I mean, not bad for a person who rarely goes to the ward (shhhhh!). I'd like to say thank you to Lay Fang, sacrificing her Breast CA knowledge in order for me to clerk a Breast CA case while she had to clerk a Thyroid case, which she just read this morning. Thanks so much Lay Fang!! Really appreciate it =)
At the end of my long case assessment, Miss D said that I was doing good for a 3rd year...and Mr. S actually said "ok, good!" after I was done. That gave me a start, lol.
Yay!! Finished my long case!! Can concentrate on reading only books for now...dunno when I'm gonna start, but I feel relieved and that a heavy burden has been lifted off my chest. Although, that burden may drop back down since my finals is only 2 weeks away. Yikes.
Btw, on the way down...Miss D. stood behind me in the elevator. I guess she tak puas hati or something coz she asked again, "I don't understand why I've never seen you before?"
I think that's bull though, coz I have followed ENB rounds before.
I only replied, "hmmm...maybe sebab slalu diri kat belakang".
Miss D said, "owh, you slalu diri kat belakang? Yeah maybe". Miss N was beside Miss D, prolly assessing my body language. Both she and Miss D aren't dumb. I'm sure they know that I rarely go to the ward. Whatever...surgery's almost over anyway.
