But, the most significant celebrity birthday in my life would be the Datuks of all Datuks,
Happy Birthday TOK WAN! =)
He turned 83 on the 2nd of April. That makes him an Aries, like my twin and I. He's the coolest and most handsome grandfather in the world! LOL.
When we first wished Tok Wan, he cited a short, impromptu poem for all of us, which was so cute and funny.
"...When I'm 80...I feel guilty,
When I'm 81...I feel like the only one,
At 82...there are others like me too,
At 83...I have a bigger family,
At 84...I feel sore, and I can't move around anymore..."
Tok Wan, Tok Wan. Always the joker.
As usual, we celebrated with presents and a birthday dinner. We bought him
...his idol...in a form of a book. Tok Wan was so surprised and overwhelmed coz he had been wanting that book since he heard news about it. In a way, Tun Dr. Mahathir reminds me of Tok Wan and vice versa. Both, very wise and men with principles. They both have the same aura. Their faces age with life experiences, and their backs hunched with the burden of the world on their backs.
Tok Wan is a retired diplomat. He's met with many politicians, sultan and the agong and we've heard many stories of him going abroad and bringing the family along for work and all his pictures and gifts were proof of that. No, he's not your regular grandfather..lol. He always tells us the story about him and Tok Mum dating somewhere in Singapore, on the way to the movies and they bumped into Tun Dr. Mahathir and his wife there. He wasn't the Prime Minister at the time of course. It was 1943 if I'm not mistaken, coz I remember Leanna asking Tok Wan..."tak merdeka lagi?". The question is of course, did we ever 'merdeka'?
Anyway...politics? Who wants to hear that?
So, we treated Tok Wan, Tok Mum and the family to a dinner at Naili's, Taipan. It was great fun. I love spending time with the family.
The sweetest couple in the world.
I wished we met Tun Dr. Mahathir when we already bought the book so he could sign it for Tok Wan. Alas, the blood that runs through my veins are one without luck. It's ok. Having the opportunity to bump into THE Tun Dr. Mahathir at Ikea was just an awesome experience =)
.to a world full of Aries celebrities, l e n a.
